Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. This allows me to focus on providing high-quality, comprehensive evaluations without the limitations of insurance requirements. I can provide a detailed receipt (“superbill”) that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Many families also use HSA or FSA funds to cover services. • Fees vary depending on the type of evaluation. Comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations are $2,400, psychological evaluations are $1,800, intelligence testing is $600, and consultations are billed hourly ($300 for intake, $200 for follow-up). Please see the Fees and Insurance page for full details and payment schedules.

    • Psychoeducational evaluations focus on learning and academic skills in addition to attention, memory, and processing. They are often used to identify ADHD, dyslexia, or other learning differences and to support school accommodations.

    • Psychological evaluations focus more on social, emotional, or behavioral concerns such as ADHD, autism, anxiety, or mood-related difficulties.

  • That’s something we’ll decide together. During the intake session (or a consultation if you’re not sure yet), I’ll learn more about your concerns and recommend the most appropriate type of evaluation for your situation.

  • The process typically involves:

    • 1 intake session

    • 1–2 testing sessions (about 2–3 hours each)

    • Time for scoring, interpretation, and report writing

    • 1 feedback session to review results and recommendations

From intake to feedback, the process usually takes 4–6 weeks, depending on scheduling.

  • Keep it simple and positive. You might say: “You’ll be meeting with Dr. Brenna, who wants to learn how you think and learn best.” Reassure your child that testing isn’t about passing or failing, but about discovering their strengths and what can help them do their best. Read more here.

  • Yes. Many adults seek evaluations for ADHD or autism, especially if these concerns were not identified in childhood. An evaluation can provide clarity, self-understanding, and documentation for workplace or academic accommodations. Read more here.
